Dianthus petraeus

Dianthus petraeus

One of the most elegant representatives of the genus in this country.  It is nearly endemic, being spread in Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece and Romania. In Bulgaria it is found in Northeastern Bulgaria, Danube Plain, Forebalkan, Stara Planina (Western, Central, Eastern), Znepole Region, Belasitsa, Rila Pirin, Rodopi (Western, Central, Eastern), and Western Sredna Gora, in many places only locally. The flowering period is from June to August, depending on the local conditions. Two subspecies are known – subsp. petraeus with serrate petals and subsp. orbelicus with nearly entire petals. Similar but with deeply divided petals is Dianthus noeanus.
