Geum coccineum

Geum coccineum

This bright red coloured avens is characteristic plant for the high mountains. Its distribution area stretches from the Balkan Peninsula westwards to Asiatic Turkey. Its typical habitats are wet grassy places along mountain streams. The flowering is from June to August. In Bulgaria it is widespread through the mountain areas – Central and Western Stara Planina, West Frontier Mountains, Vitosha, Pirin, Rila, Slavyanka, Western and Central Rodopi, and Sredna Gora; in some of those areas it is rare and might be difficult to spot.
