Lathyrus filiformis

Lathyrus filiformis

This plant was for a long time thought to be endemic for the Western Mediterranean of Europe and Africa. Surprisingly, it was recently found in Bulgaria and this remains the only country in Southeastern Europe, where this beautiful pea may be seen. Here it grows in one small area in the Central Rodopi Mts, where it is restricted to limestone rocky grasslands. Its flowering period extends from May to July. Due to its rarity, the species is listed on the Bulgarian Red Data Book.
