Viola ganiatsasii

Viola ganiatsasii

Among the many spectacular species of pansies in Bulgaria, Viola ganitsasii is one of the most recently described. It was recognized as a new species in 1989 on material from Rodopi Mts in both Greece and Bulgaria (a Balkan endemic). In this country it is seen only in a small area in Central Rodopi Mts, where it grows in open grassy and stony places and flowers from May to July.
